How Gear Advisor scores your gear

Gear Advisor is not a “best in slot” list someone typed in. It loads the items in your inventory dump (or a saved Character Profile), looks up catalog stats, applies +N upgrade scaling, then ranks each slot with a focus formula. If we do not have numbers, we cannot rank the piece.

What it needs from you

  1. A dump: in game, open Dragon’s Hoard at a banker, type /outputfile inventory, click the text document in chat, and paste or upload it. Or pick a profile you already saved on Character Profiles.
  2. Up to three classes (for wearable filters) and a focus: balanced, tank, caster, or melee.
  3. Optional: ignore class restrictions, or include catalog items you do not own so you can see a theoretical upgrade.

Then use Gear Advisor and hit Scan.

The four focus formulas

Resists summed are MAGIC, FIRE, COLD, DISEASE, POISON, and VOID. Attribute sum is STR, STA, AGI, DEX, WIS, INT, and CHA. Weapon ratio is damage / delay when delay is greater than zero.

  • Tank — AC × 4 + HP × 2 + STA × 3 + resist sum + ATK + haste. Armor and stamina first.
  • Caster — mana × 2 + INT × 2.5 + WIS × 2.5 + HP + AC + resist sum × 0.5 + mana regen × 8. INT and WIS are treated equally so hybrid casters are not forced into one stat.
  • Melee — ATK × 3 + STR × 2 + DEX × 1.5 + ratio × 40 + haste × 3 + AC + HP × 0.5. Weapons with a real ratio beat empty delay fields.
  • Balanced — AC × 2 + HP + mana × 0.6 + all attributes + resist sum × 0.5 + ATK × 1.5 + haste × 2 + ratio × 20. A generalist score when you have not picked a role.

These weights are a starting heuristic for “what you already own,” not a parse of your current raid target. A 1 AC difference will not always match how you feel in a fight. If a slot looks wrong, check whether the winner has inspect-verified stats and the loser is still a wiki blank.

Owned vs catalog

Default: only stacks in the dump. A “best in slot” you do not have will not appear. Turn on Include items I don’t own to also rank catalog items for that slot; those rows are labeled as not owned so you do not confuse a shopping list with your bags.

Class filter uses the three class pickers unless you check ignore restrictions. That is for “what if I twink this on another class,” not for cheating the server.

Worked example (tank focus)

Suppose two helms both fit the slot. Helm A is inspect-verified: AC 31, HP 40, STA 10. Helm B is a dump-sighted name with no stats yet. Tank score for A is 31×4 + 40×2 + 10×3 = 124 + 80 + 30 = 234 (plus any resists). Helm B cannot get a score, so it will not beat A. Filling B from a wiki table would make the scan look complete and still be wrong for EverQuest Legends — which is why we refuse that import. See how we verify data.

What a high score does not mean

  • It does not encode clicky effects, worn procs, or “this click wins the fight.”
  • It does not know your current HP buffs or whether you need a resist set for a specific island.
  • It will happily recommend a high-AC piece that is No Drop on a character who cannot use it if you ignored class filters.

Unofficial scoring helper. Confirm the inspect window in game before you destroy or sell a piece the scan ranked lower.
